Playa del Carmen was exactly what I expected it to be. I couldn’t dislike it for being what it is. Which is basically a shopping mall by the beach with bars and restaurants spilling from the sides.
I knew it wasn’t going to be my kind of place. But this turned out to be a good thing. Because I didn’t expect a lot, wasn’t surprised by it’s tacky vibe and quite enjoyed my time.
I avoided he typical tourist traps and mainly stuck to appreciating the beautiful beach. I made the most of the great plaza area by the beach. It is a HiiT playground! PDC also provided me with a great place to run. Of course the weather was fantastic so soaking up the sun made for a relaxing few days.
If you’re after a package holiday and want to throw cash away like it grows on trees, this is your place. For me, a few days of chilling out was enough before I got a little bored.
So, that’s all I really have to say about the place. I wouldn’t recommend it as a must see. The Pacific coast is definitely worth seeing instead.
Now for my last stop before home, Tulum.
